The new Volkswagen Golf GTI captures the essence of the original GTI, the car that launched the hot-hatch segment 40 years ago. The eight-generation model is lower and longer than the previous model, which gives it better stability at high speed, but it is also lighter, which means the performance and the handling have been improved. In addition, the 2.0L TFSI engine saw its power increase to 241 horsepower and its torque climb to 273 ft-lb, which allows for quicker accelerations and an even more dynamic driving experience, helped by the new electronically controlled limited slip front differential that puts the power down more effectively. This performance does not come at the expense of fuel efficiency however, since the 2022 Golf GTI consumes 0.4L/100km in the city and 0.3L/100km on the highway less than the previous model, for actual figures of 9.3L/100km city and 7.0L/100km highway.
